Myth : ENERGY DRINKS are dietary supplements for gymmers
Fact : Fact: The energy drinks contain large amounts of caffeine which provides a temporary energy boost. Some energy drinks contain sugar and other substances. The boost is short-lived, however, and may be accompanied by other problems. There are energy drinks with added sugar that may contribute to weight gain. Too much caffeine leads to nervousness, insomnia, palpitations and increased blood pressure. Research shows that caffeine is present in much higher levels than the permitted range approved by the FDA for soft drinks. FDA limits the caffeine contents of cola-type soft drinks to 71 milligrams per 12 fluid ounces, no such limit is required on energy drinks rendering them more unsafe. Fresh juices high in potassium and sodium are ideal rehydration therapy.
